I woke up at 6:30 this morning and went birding for two hours. I saw a baby chestnut-sided warbler, a pair of downy woodpeckers, an indigo bunting, a family of eastern meadowlarks,a black-capped chickadee, and what I think was a swamp sparrow. I love watching barn swallows wheel and turn over the prairie like aereal acrobats. Then I went berry picking and made fresh blackberry pancakes. I read some of Aldo Leopold's "The River of the Mother of God", and then I took a nap. This day is absolutely gorgeous, so I need to do something outside. Some people are going to Hard Rock in the cities tonight, but I'm not sure it's worth the drive out there just to eat there. What will the rest of the day bring?
Went to a biker bar Friday night, this place called Fatboys. It was pretty hilarious. My entire crew, including our boss, went to celebrate the end of our ridiculously long week in which we all worked overtime every single day. Our resident maniac, Ross, who by the way hails from Louisianna, bought all the ladies at our table roses because someone was selling them for some unknown reason. Then he bought us shots and a few pitchers for the table. This guy is so freaking hilarious, and he always wants everyone to have a good time. So seven drunk people and my blind self pile into the car, and I drive everyone home amongst screaming and singing and hanging out of moon-roofs. We were quite the spectacle. I'd say the weirdest part of the night was when the waitresses, all at least in their 30s, climbed onto the bar and poured alcohol into peoples' mouths who were sitting at the bar. So bizarre!
Well, I need to go do more earth-child, tree-hugging hippie things. I can't believe I'll be home in about 15 days! The summer went by so fast. Soon I will be back in school.
